Scary at first, probably daunting I was going to be working with a male who was younger than me, very knowledgeable and who looked extremely fit.

I was well out of my comfort zone; I was mortified that I would come across as this stupid middle aged mum of 2 who would collapse at the first challenge.

I think that was down to the fact that I had no confidence in myself or ability.

HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF PRIOR TO STARTING THE PT SESSIONS?
I.E. CONFIDENCE / SELF ESTEEM / BODY IMAGE ETC

I was un-happy, frustrated and confused. I seemed to “sweat buckets” and work hard in the gym but not getting or seeing any results. I couldn’t work out where I was going wrong. I seemed to be trying so hard but not getting anywhere. The scales and my body shape never changed thus my confidence and self esteem plummeted.

What methods of achieving your goals had you tried before.

I was going to the gym 4 times a week doing the same routine week in week out. 50 minutes of cardio on the same levels and then 30 minutes of machine weights and stomach. The more I asked people what I should be doing the more I got confused heavy weights less reps light weights more reps until I didn’t know what I should be doing.

Diets to be honest I have never been good at as my diet wasn’t THAT bad. But I would loose a few pounds then gain them, then loose then gain e.g.
Fat Loss Tablets, I have tried every weight loss tablet, fat burner, patch e.ct on the market, you name it I have tried it, did they work No.

What training techniques did Russ use with you?

First we developed a plan of action- goals to achieve, how to do it, measurements, weight. Then I had 4 weeks of one on one sessions, once a week with Russ, and a training program to follow on the days I wasn’t with Russ.

What goals were you looking to achieve through your PT and to what level did you achieve them.

Honestly when I first started my goals were all about “how I looked”. I wanted to be confident with my body. Being a mum of two I wanted to have a figure to be proud of on a beach and not fall into the category of “well she has had 2 kids” I really did think then that if I lost 14 pounds in weight my body shape would equal a figure like beyonce. How stupid was I? But that is how I use to think back then. I was focused on what the scales read thinking that was the main goal. Now my goals have shifted throughout the year, the main focus still being on how I look but since doing boot camp the fitness aspect is creeping in. I have definitely achieved what I set out to do but now I have the seen results I want more!!!!

Please describe the PT experience?

After the first session, I could have run the London marathon I felt that good however the day after I couldn’t walk which proved I wasn’t working any muscles with my training programme. The one on one sessions where exciting but tough. It was fun to do something different in the gym KNOWING that you are going to benefit from it.

Boot Camp is different it’s hard and it take you beyond your comfort zone to another level of pain. After my first Thursday morning session I compared it to childbirth. I think I was in shock and surprised at how hard it was. Now I love it!!!

The support it ALWAYS there if I have any questions Russ is just a text or email away.

Please describe the PT experience?

When I started training with Russ I didn't know what to expect as my usual routine was eating takeaways on a regular bases. Changing to dieting was hard for me to get into a routine to eat healthier but with the support of Russ I got there in the end. Training was hard but when it got tough and when I felt like I was going to give up Russ always motivated me to keep going even when I am “physically passing out” which boosted my confidence and made me even more determined to achieve my goals. Without Russ being so supportive and pushing me to my limit I wouldn't have got this far.

My body shape has completely changed I have definition and tone in my upper body. My bum and thighs have got slimmer.  I can now actually look at the smaller clothes sizes and fit in them which was always a no go area before. Loads of people have commented on the fact that I have lost “loads” of weight, I do correct them and say it’s not the weight it’s actually inches that I have lost.   You don’t actually realise how much you have changed yourself.

Was there anything else that you achieved or experienced as a result of the PT that you were not expecting?

Motivation; I didn’t expect to be still motivated after 12 months!

I’m probably more motivated now about exercise than what I was when I started. Going to the gym was something I had to do now I want to do it. I want to achieve more, a flatter stomach, smaller bum etc, I want better results. It’s hard to explain, it’s like I’m fired up more.

New ways of thinking sounds strange but I use to think that the scales ruled how well you did at exercise. What you weighed was the most important factor. I didn’t realise what you can achieve by taking your measurements, body fat etc these are ways of looking at achieving goals. I was never that over-weight so really I wasn’t going to lose a lot of weight on the scales. Everyone is different some people see big results on the scales others its just by looking at them and I fall into that category.

Any other comments?

Just thanks for your help I achieved results not just physically but mentally. Look forward to working with you more this year!!!
